Enika Lucio Schembari

Enika Schembair is our head instructor and barn manager at Carousel Academy of Hingham Massachusetts. Enika has a lifetime of horse experience. Her love affair with horses began when she was four years old at her aunt’s barn riding a pinto named Co-Poe.

At age 6 Enika received her first pony named "Chocolate" from Katie Heflin, daughter of the actor Van Heflin. For her 8th birthday She received her first horse "Richer Kip" a 4 year old syndicated racing quarter horse stallion, from Jimmy Fergosi.

Growing up in northern California in the shadow of Mount Shasta , Enika and her sister Niko spent all of their free time galloping through the country side, racing across field and forest on horse back. Her family tells stories of Enika running through the supermarket on all fours whinnying and pretending she was a horse. Eventually her sister Niko went on to appear nationally in gymnastics meets competing against such figures as Marry Lou Rettin.

Enika received the beginnings of her education from the best instructors in the area and she traveled to shows and parades with her various ponies and horses throughout the years. In her teens she ran track for her high school and even made the T.A.C. national track team running the 100 meter and the 440 meter, in some cases clocking times equal to or faster than the men’s team.

After high school she moved to Scottsdale Arizona where she worked at a sixty horse, Premier facility, interning with the owners while she assisted with the lesson program. While there, Enika studied the disciplines of jumping and dressage.

In late 1994 Enika enrolled in Meredith Manor International Equestrian Center. She spent the next few years meticulously learning her craft and receiving multiple master certifications including:

  • Riding masters VI
  • Training masters VI
  • Teaching masters V
  • Horse and barn management masters
  • Breeding certificate
  • Farrier I certificate
  • Business management certificate

During this time she accumulated over 3’500 riding hours and even more hours of ground work and horse handling than can be counted. While in school she met her husband Joseph, who was also a student, studying farrier, training, teaching and many of the same courses that Enika herself was taking.

Enika graduated in 1997 at the top of the deans list with a G.P.A. of 3.8, and an incredible amount of energy, just waiting to burst on to the professional equine scene.

She immediately a landed training and riding position with the Wonderful World of Horses featuring the “Royal Lippizan Stallions”. Enika riding in the show and training grand-prix level dressage and performing the “airs above the ground” and Joseph traveled as the personal farrier for the stallions. Enika and Joseph signed on for 2 international tours and performed for audiences often larger than 10’000 people all across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

After the Lippizan tour Enika moved to the south shore of Boston and began to establish her place in the Massachusetts equestrian industry. In the last six and a half years, Enika has effectively started and run three separate lesson programs, and developed them into large successful, training and teaching programs for the public. She has trained dozens of horses, during which time she corrected a broad spectrum of issues with all kinds horses and several different disciplines and

Enika was the first instructor for the Brandeis University Inter-Collegiate Equestrian Team, all while raising two children. Enika still continues to further her education.

On and off for the last 3 ½ years she has trained and appeared in demonstrations around the North East with Victor Silva, Portuguese riding master and owner of “Sons of the Wind” in Merrimac MA., and when time allows, taking lessons with Olympic medalist Dotty Morkis.

Enika is currently training 8 horses for clients and show, and this summer will be traveling the interstate hunter jumper and dressage circuits with her 19 hand American warmblood Sebastian Bauch, and her 16.2 paint gelding, Shy Kahn.

Now she has turned her sights on the Hingham area, and in cooperation with the Corey family of Hingham, she has begun to establish an equestrian center on the south shore like no other.
